NLIS Sheep and Goat Standards June 2024

The NLIS Sheep and Goat Standards have been updated and endorsed to include individual electronic identification, detailing the minimum supply chain operating standards to ensure livestock traceability and biosecurity rapid response.

They support harmonisation in legislation across the different States and Territories though industry still needs to comply with the relevant legislation for the jurisdiction in which they operate.

Is the Animal Fit To Load?

An updated guide to help producers, agents, buyers and transporters decide if an animal is fit to be loaded for transport by road or rail has been released by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA).

The 2019 edition of the national guide, Is the Animal Fit to Load?, includes new content to ensure best practices for animal welfare when preparing, loading, and delivering cattle, sheep, and goats.

Transport Chain of Responsibility

If you sell or buy livestock at saleyards, own or work in a saleyard or transport livestock to/from saleyards then you are likely to be in the transport chain of responsibility.

ALMA/Saleyards Australia has developed resources to provide guidance to all saleyard stakeholders.

The development of these resources was made possible by funding provided by the Heavy Vehicle Safety Initiative.

Managing Effluent in the Livestock Supply Chain

The Managing Effluent in the Livestock Supply Chain RICP is a practical guide that assists livestock transporters and parties in the Chain of Responsibility (CoR) to comply with their primary duty and other obligations under the HVNL relevant to managing livestock effluent during road transport.

The Managing Effluent in the Livestock Supply Chain RICP is freely available to all heavy vehicle operators and supply chain parties and like any Registered Industry Code of Practice, can also be used in court as evidence of known risks and control methods.
